Captain Visger House

The Captain Visger House offers a unique stay in a renovated Victorian home amongst the beautiful 1000 Islands. We’re located in the heart of colorful Alexandria Bay, New York, one of many communities along the glorious St. Lawrence. Come explore this hidden gem!

You are invited to step back in time to the 1000 Islands’ Guilded Age, recalling when Captain Elisha W. Visger, creator of the first island tours, lived here with his family. This fully restored, architecturally significant home combines gracious antiques with 21st century conveniences. Plush queen mattresses, luxurious cotton linens and optional specialties like chocolate, flowers and something bubbly are available to make your stay even more memorable.

Some of our rooms have glimpses of the water, and the entire house can feel the gentle rumble of ocean-worthy freighters passing by. It’s somewhere between soothing and thrilling and always, always, uniquely “the river.”

All guests of the Captain Visger House receive a delicious complimentary breakfast at our restaurant The Kitchen. Breakfast is my greatest joy in this endeavor and I am passionate about locally grown, sustainable organic ingredients in the food I prepare with love.

Comfortable, welcoming in every way possible. Sam and her staff are so genuine and kind. Everything about our 3 night stay was perfect. Clean and comfortable room (Harmonius). The breakfasts we were served were over the top! We had dinner once, as well. Incredible! Farm to table at its finest. Meghan, Mark and Chef Andrew are a great team. Highly recommend “The Kitchen” to anyone visiting A Bay. 5☆! We loved the location as well. We parked our car and walked everywhere. Perfect spot to enjoy beautiful 1000 Island sunsets. We are already planning our next stay. Thank you, Sam! You truly are one of a kind.

We stayed for two nights and got married there in the house! It was absolutely perfect! Sam and her staff made sure that we felt comfortable and took care of all the details. The entire weekend was exactly what we wanted and our stay there could not have been any better. We will definitely be back! :)

Perfect Perfect Perfect ! ! ! Absolutely charming place. Very comfortable. Immaculate. Had the most delicious breakfasts on the patio - “farm to table” food - perfectly prepared. Our hostess, Sam, did everything to make our stay thoroughly enjoyable. And the restaurant - “The Kitchen” - turned out a dinner fit for royalty. Oh yes, Mary and George will be back!
